2022 Yamaha M-10 SP First Motorcycle to Feature Revolutionary Öhlins Suspension Valving Technology

New model offers road performance-optimized front and rear suspensions utilizing Öhlins ‘spool valve’ fork and damper technology

Milan, Italy, November 23, 2021: The 2022 Yamaha M-10 SP hyper naked bike, unveiled today during EICMA 2021 at Fiero Milano Rho, is the first motorcycle to feature Öhlins front and rear suspensions equipped with a revolutionary internal valve technology that enhances road performance through broader, faster setting adjustments.

Introduction of the new MT-10 SP coincides with the global debuts of the Öhlins NIX30-SV front fork and TTX36-SV rear shock, featuring an exclusive “spool valve” design that significantly enhances rider comfort. Unlike a traditional needle valve, Öhlins’ spool valve features a pressure compensation chamber that balances the force applied to the damper’s actuator, enabling quicker adjustment. The spool valve also provides increased sensitivity and responsiveness at the low and high ends of the adjustment range.

“Yamaha has long been among the standard bearers of the naked bike movement, and the new MT-10 SP represents an important step forward in performance, styling and rider enjoyment,” said Robert Brinkmark, director of two-wheel sales, marketing and product management for Öhlins Racing. “This bike offers all the aggressiveness of the most exciting nakeds while providing a more comfortable and consistent riding experience. The Öhlins engineering team is proud to have played an important role in this achievement.”

The new MT-10 SP’s front and rear suspensions combine the advantages of the spool valve design with the well-established benefits of NIX30 and TTX36 technologies. Designed through extensive insight gained in World Superbike and Superstock competition, the NIX30- SV front fork and TTX36-SV shock absorber provide significantly improved performance, stability and suppleness as compared to original equipment units. These products offer electronically controlled compression and rebound damping and outstanding feedback, control and comfort. In addition, their pressure-balanced designs eliminate the risk of cavitation in a full range of riding situations.

The new Yamaha MT-10 SP is designed for riders who want the most exclusive hyper naked with the highest chassis technology ever fitted to a production model. This machine is the first motorcycle in the world equipped with Öhlins’ latest electronically controlled suspension system at the front and rear. The MT-10 SP is fitted with the next generation of the Öhlins electronically controlled suspension system, featuring the new spool valve design.
